The origin
Behind these achievements is the unique terroir of Leyda, located just 4 kilometres from the coast, characterised by its cool climate, with average temperatures of 13ºC, which gives its vineyards marine qualities that allow the grapes to ripen slowly, enhancing flavours, aromas and a unique natural acidity. This particular combination of conditions contributes to a subtle saline character that defines the personality of its wines. In addition, the granitic soils of the Cordillera de la Costa, more than 120 million years old, give the wines a vibrant minerality and unique depth.
These terroirs are managed by winemaker Viviana Navarrete, who has been head winemaker at Viña Leyda since 2007, a position that has established her as a renowned figure in the industry, particularly for her work with Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Thanks to her career and ability to capture the essence of the valley, in 2020, Navarrete was named Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin, was included among the 13 best winemakers in the world by Wine Enthusiast and was named Winemaker of the Year in the Descorchados Guide 2022.
