Climate change and the need to strengthen competitiveness in Chilean agriculture motivated the development of two new products deployed by the Wines of Chile R&D Consortium, with the support of Corfo.

The DATAVID Agroclimatic Platform and the DATAVID Catalogue of Vitis spp.The new wines were launched at a meeting that was led by the national director of INIA Chile, Carlos Furche, the president of the Chilean Wine R&D Consortium, Mario Pablo Silva, and authorities from Corfo.

Representatives from the agricultural and wine sector also participated, as an example of public-private collaboration and associative innovation, providing concrete solutions to the challenges of national agriculture.

"These are fundamental elements that are essential for current and future needs. Today, the Consortium is carrying out a technological programme on climate change issues to position regenerative agriculture and, with it, all the resources with which it can be implemented," said Macarena Aljaro, director of Technological Programmes and Consortia.

In this line, Carlos Furche, national director of INIA Chile, said that "INIA greatly values the work of the Consortium, actively participates in the management of the network of agro-climatic stations, as well as in the work of vineyard improvement, aimed at making our wine industry increasingly sustainable and competitive".

Mario Pablo Silva, president of the Consorcio I+D Vinos de Chile added that "what we have built with the permanent support of Corfo for 20 years are projects that are really positive, not only for the wine sector, but also as an example for the country".

Silva also pointed out that "this Consortium has been serious, it has carried out good projects and the vineyards continue to participate with commitment, because they understand that what we do is of concrete use to them in the long term".

Positive projection

These tools aim to optimise producers' decision-making through accurate, timely and up-to-date information, contributing to improve production management and adaptation to climate change.

The Catalogue of Selections of Vitis spp. presents plant materials of better sanitary quality, allowing the establishment of more durable and resilient vineyards, improving production conditions and quality in the long term.

The estimated economic and environmental impact of these tools is expected to be significant, with significant savings projected from lower costs and reduced emissions.
