Recognised for being one of the country's pioneering family wineries in sustainability, viña Miguel Torres Chile has achieved the status of Gold Member The wine was awarded the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) award, after meeting all the requirements of the organisation's rigorous protocol.

In their efforts to ensure that winemaking operations are powered by at least 20% of on-site renewable energy, and to demonstrate a steady reduction in emissions per litre of wine, they have achieved to be among the first Chilean wineries to achieve the highest standards in carbon emissions reduction.

"We are proud of the nomination from IWCA, as it consolidates years of work on sustainability and the efforts made to reduce our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions," said Jaime Valderrama, general manager of Miguel Torres Chile.

"We are delighted that Miguel Torres Chile has achieved Gold Membership in the IWCA. As the first foreign wine company to invest in Chile, its success in achieving Gold membership strengthens the IWCA's presence in Chile," said Katie Jackson, president of International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA).

"As winegrowers, we are suffering severely from the consequences of climate change, our duty to future generations is to act now. We hope that many more wineries, at home and abroad, will join our cause to accelerate the decarbonisation of the wine industry," adds Jackson.

The IWCA Annual Report is published each November and showcases members' individual efforts on their journey to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, providing a unique snapshot of how wineries are adopting innovative practices in the face of climate change.

"This only reinforces our desire to continue working to meet our goals of reaching 50% GHG reduction by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2050," said Jaime Valderrama.

About lWCA

It is a non-profit organisation founded by Familia Torres (Spain) and Jackson Family Wines (USA) in 2019, which aims to achieve real and measurable decarbonisation in the global wine industry. To obtain Gold status, wineries must perform an annual external verification of their carbon footprint (scopes 1, 2 and 3), develop reduction plans aligned with the Science Based Targets methodology, and use 100% renewable electricity in their operations. Miguel Torres Chile met all these criteria.
