Enotourism, tourism related to wine culture, has gained great relevance in Latin America in recent years.

This is not only as a source of economic income, but also for fostering wine appreciation, for preserving and promoting cultural identity and heritage, for contributing to the responsible and sustainable socio-economic development of wine producing regions.

In addition, by generating employment for residents, improving the quality of local life, promoting respect for the environment, diversifying and deseasonalising tourism, and recognising local gastronomy, among others.

The launch of the organisation Asociación Iberoamericana del Enoturismo (AIBE) under the brand World Wine Tourism Organisation (OMET-GWTO) is conceived as an important milestone, aimed at strengthening ties between Spanish and Portuguese-speaking wine tourism destinations, as well as with emerging and established destinations in other continents.

Uniting territories and wine culture

Being part of a global wine tourism network represents a unique opportunity for Ibero-America to integrate its cultural and gastronomic riches, while projecting its wine regions to the world.

This will strengthen Ibero-America's position on the global wine tourism map through its diversified and responsible proposals.

Wine tourism is a growing trend, and this type of linkages share and consolidate efforts, strengthen collaborative networks between countries and destinations, protecting wine-related cultural traditions and promoting good practices: greater visibility, access to knowledge for professionalisation, international collaboration and the strengthening of regional economies.

The Ibero-American Association of Wine Tourism is part of the strategic plan of the World Organisation of Wine Tourism for the implementation of Regional Associations of Wine Tourism in the 5 continents.
