Quillón joins Città del Vino and projects its enotourism

The commune became the only one in the country to join the prestigious Italian network that brings together wine-growing territories with a strong cultural identity, reinforcing its wine tourism projection and its link with the Itata Valley and southern Chile.

Quillón has just marked a milestone for Chilean wine and, in particular, for the Itata Valley. The commune officially became the Chile's only municipality to join the Città del Vino, the prestigious Italian network that brings together more than 500 territories with a strong wine identity in Europe.

The incorporation was recently formalised by means of an agreement between the Municipality of Quillón and the Associazione Nazionale Città del Vino, based in Siena, Italy, an entity founded in 1987 and recognised for its work in the promotion of wine as a cultural, tourist and sustainable development axis in its member territories.

This recognition is not accidental. Città del Vino emphasises communes that have wine production with designation of origin and geographical indication, as well as an oenological tradition linked to history, culture and the natural environment. In this sense, Quillón stands out for its link with wine, its landscape and an identity that has been consolidated over time.

The announcement takes on particular significance as it is made in the context of the Quillón Wine Competition, This event is projected in each version as a key platform to make the wines of the Itata Valley and the south of Chile visible. Belonging to this international network will allow them to strengthen the event, expanding its links, standards and projection beyond national borders.

From the municipality, its mayor, Felipe Catalán, highlighted that “this incorporation opens a concrete opportunity to project the commune at an international level, strengthen tourism and continue to position Quillón as a reference for wine and good food in the Ñuble Region”.

A boost to local development

This work has been supported by Corfo Ñuble, an entity that has been a constant supporter of the region's wine initiatives. The institution stresses that this milestone is the result of a long-term strategy that understands wine and wine tourism as drivers of local development, articulated with the Quillón Wine Competition and supported through the Viraliza Eventos programme.

Being part of Città del Vino involves joining an active network of international collaboration, which develops projects, competitions, wine tourism observatories and joint actions aimed at strengthening the production chain, heritage and sustainability of wine-growing territories. For Quillón -and for Chile- this step represents a clear sign of the value that wines with territorial identity and cultural roots have today.
