Sustainable Innovation Award

Familia Torres' commitment to sustainability has reached a new milestone with the recognition of its regenerative viticulture project as one of the 10+10 Business Examples #PorElClima. This prestigious award, presented in Madrid on 24 October during the International Day Against Climate Change, highlights business initiatives that lead climate action in Spain.

What is Regenerative Viticulture?

Since 2021, Familia Torres has implemented this innovative agricultural model in more than half of its organic vineyards, with the aim of covering all of its 650 hectares in the coming years. Regenerative viticulture seeks to restore soil health, promote biodiversity and increase the resilience of the vineyards. In addition, this approach allows atmospheric carbon dioxide to be captured and stored as organic carbon, transforming the vineyards into important carbon sinks.

A Comprehensive Climate Change Strategy

Regenerative viticulture is a key pillar of the Torres & Earththe winery's climate strategy, which includes Miguel Torres Chile, Marimar Estate, Jean Leon and Juan Torres Master Distillers. This joint effort aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2040, consolidating Familia Torres as a leader in sustainability in the wine sector.

An Inspiring Global Model

Familia Torres' commitment is not limited to Spain. In Chile, Miguel Torres Chile has implemented regenerative viticulture practices in the Huerta de Maule and Santa Digna vineyards, obtaining certifications that endorse its commitment. By restoring soil fertility and balancing the food web, these vineyards are managing to capture carbon and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions, demonstrating the positive impact of this methodology at a global level.

Award Winners2024_-10+10-Examples-Entrepreneurship-#PforClimate-(1)An Award that Boosts Decarbonisation
The award, organised by the #PorElClima Community and supported by entities such as ECODES, Fundación Biodiversidad and CaixaBank, highlights the role of the private sector in the fight against the climate emergency. Familia Torres thus joins a select group of companies that are leading the way towards a more sustainable future.

A Legacy that Looks to the Future
With more than 150 years of history in the Penedès region, Familia Torres has combined tradition and innovation to face the challenges of climate change. Through the recovery of ancestral varieties and the implementation of regenerative practices, the fifth generation of the family continues to demonstrate that respect for the land and passion for wine can be allies in the fight for a more sustainable planet.
